Mónica Cordera, asturiana de nacimiento, en 2006 creó su propia línea de ropa con la que pretende ofrecer diseño y exclusividad a precios razonables.
Sus creaciones de las que cabe destacar sus delicados acabados, van dirigidas a mujeres con personalidad, femeninas ante todo pronóstico, actuales y elegantes.
Además esta joven diseñadora de tan sólo 24 años ha sabido hacer patria con unos diseños made in Spain totalmente artesanales y de edición limitada, en cuya creación se ha respetado tanto los derechos humanos como el medio ambiente.

Como ya habréis podido observar el trabajo de Mónica me ha sorprendido gratamente y por ello no quería que la presentación de una firma como la suya fuese una mera descripción, así que le pregunté si le importaría responder a un par de preguntas, y muy amablemente, accedió.

- Al igual que afirman los escritores que su gran reto es enfrentarse a un folio en blanco supongo que el tuyo también lo será, ¿Qué cosas te inspiran a la hora de comenzar a crear una nueva colección?
Primeramente, cuando me pongo a diseñar, tiene que darme el "arrebato"...nunca planifico mis horas de creación, simplemente surgen y aprovecho esas ráfagas de creatividad reflejándolas en un folio en blanco... No suelo partir de nada en concreto, más bien intento plasmar todo aquello que llevo dentro (aunque no niego que influyen corrientes artísticas, colores, tendencias...)

- El estilo romántico es el predominante en la mayoría de tus creaciones ¿Tiene algún significado especial o simplemente te gusta esa estética?

Como bien dijo una seguidora mía no hace mucho, me gusta vestir a las mujeres como niñas en una época en la que intentan vestir a las niñas como mujeres.
Me siento totalmente identificada con el estilo naïf, creo que sino diseñase basándome en esta corriente, mi marca perdería el sello personal que la caracteriza.
Siempre pretendo llenar mis creaciones de dulzura, para que la persona que se las ponga se empape de ella y se sienta especial y diferente.

- ¿Qué se siente al ver por primera vez un diseño tuyo hecho realidad?
Entusiasmo y "descanso"...porque llevar un boceto a la realidad cuesta lo suyo. Hay un arduo trabajo con mucho tesón.

- Desde tu punto de vista de diseñadora con firma propia, ¿Crees que cada día es más difícil hacerse un hueco en el mundo de la moda? ¿Es todo tan bonito como lo vemos desde fuera o hay muchos "puntos negros" que no suelen salir a la luz?
No es duro, es durísimo. Sacar una firma propia a la luz "sin padrinos" como es mi caso, cuesta sangre, sudor y lágrimas...
Infinidad de horas de trabajo (trabajo noches, domingos, festivos...), empeño, tesón, fuerza y sobre todo, sobre todo tener muy claro lo que se quiere y estar muy segura de mi misma.

Luego es gratificante ver que la gente te felicita, te sigue, te admira y es fiel a la marca...
Otra parte muy buena de mi experiencia es que como he empezado de la nada, he tocado todos los aspectos y ahora tengo un montón de conocimientos en diversos ámbitos: (diseño, tejidos, patronaje, escalado, corte, confección, gestión, administración, comunicación...) Pero sin ninguna duda, lo que más me llena es ver que vivo dignamente de mi gran pasión: La moda.
Y por supuesto que no es tan bonito como parece...suele haber muchas zancadillas y yo siempre digo que no me siento identificada con la parafernalia que envuelve el sector. A mi me gusta estar aislada en mi burbujita, permaneciendo en un segundo plano.

- Y por último me gustaría que nos contases - si no es mucho pedir - cual ha sido el mejor consejo que te han dado al intentar adentrarte en el diseño de moda, ese consejo que te ha hecho seguir adelante, te ha dado fuerzas, te ha abierto los ojos...
Simple y llanamente que luche, que centre mis energías en crear, y que tengo que empezar a saber delegar (porque siempre quiero hacer yo todo...jajaja).

I have to emphasize the delicate finish of her creations which are pointed towards women with personality, feminine against any prognostic, up-to-the-minute and elegant.
Furthermore this young designer who is only 24 years old has known how to work for the land of birth with her designs made in Spain, totally handcrafted and of limited edition in which their creation has been respected Human Rights and the environment.

As you may have noticed it Mónica’s work has surprised me a lot and due to that I didn’t want this to be just a descriptive post so, some days ago I asked her if she could answer some questions and very kindly she did it.

- So as lots of writers state that their big challenge is to face a white paper I suppose that yours is it too, which are the things that you feel inspired by before starting a collection?
Firstly when I start designing I have to feel the rage… I never plan the hours I am creating, they simply go on and I make the most of those gusts of creativity reflecting them on a blank paper.
I don’t usually start with anything concrete, I try to capture everything I have inside me (although I don’t deny that some artistic currents, colours or trends have an influence on me)

- The romantic style is the predominant in all your creations, has it any special meaning or is it because you like the aesthetic?
As a good follower of my work said not so long ago, I like to dress women as they were little girls in a time period that some people try to dress girls like women.
I feel totally identified with the naïf style, I think that if I don’t design based on it my brand would lose her personal stamp or style.
I always pretend to full my creations with sweetness, so as the one who wears them feels special and different.

- What do you feel when you see for the first time one of you designs made it real?
Enthusiasm and rest… because trying to make real a drawing is very tiring. There is a great work before it.

- From your point of view as a designer with her own brand, do you think that day by day is more difficult to make a bit of space in the fashion world? Is everything so nice as we see it from the other side or there are lots of black dots that normally are not highlighted?
It is not hard, it is too hard. Birthing a brand without anyone that helps you to do it, as it is my case, takes you blood, sweat and tears.
Lots of working hours (nights, Sundays, holidays…) effort, perseverance, strength and having everything very clear and feeling very self confident.

After this it is rewarding to see that people congratulates you, follows you, admires you and is faithful to your brand.
Another good side of my experience is that as I have started without anything, I have touched so many aspects and now I have lot of knowledge in designs, fabrics, pattern making, cut out, dressmaking, processing, administration, communication… but without a doubt what it comforts me is that I live from what is my passion: Fashion.
And of course that it is not as nice as it seems to be… there are lots of trips and I always say that I don’t feel identified with the paraphernalia that involves the sector.
I like to isolate myself in my bubble and remain in a second level.

- And at last I would like you to tell us – if it is not asking a lot – which has been the piece of advice that you have received, the advice that has made you continue and has opened your eyes.
Simply that I have to fight, I have to concentrate my energies in creating and that I have to start delegating (I always want to do everything by myself!)
